The battle for automotive AI chips

In 2021, the lack of core is sweeping the world, and the automotive industry is no exception.
Many new car manufacturers have to delay delivery or even postpone the release of new products.
The automobile industry is going through an era from “mechanical definition cars” to “intelligence definition cars”, and the quantity and quality of on-board chips for electric vehicles are significantly higher than that of fuel vehicles. With the substantial increase in the penetration rate of new energy vehicles, intelligent driving is gradually approaching, and automotive AI smart chips are the “core fulcrum” of it.
This lack of cores has made the importance of in-vehicle AI smart chips more and more prominent.
In 1939, at the New York World’s Fair, General Motors (GM) used the “Futurama” simulation city to show the world the dream of autonomous driving for the first time.
It was not until around 2015 that the automotive industry saw the hope of realizing autonomous driving and began to explore the landing and industrialization of autonomous driving technology. Today, the industry has reached a consensus: the integration of chips and cars is a prerequisite for intelligent driving.
From the earliest ECU “driving computer” to today’s various automotive chips, the automotive electronics industry has developed by leaps and bounds.
Today, the chips on cars can be roughly divided into three categories: AI chips, control MCUs and IGBT power devices. Among them, the AI chip is the key to the evolution of a car from a “traditional car” to a “smart car”. It is responsible for the calculation and processing of autonomous driving perception and human-computer interaction.
